2018 Press Release

Cottleville, MO (January 29, 2018) – Champion Sports Management, Inc., owner of the St. Louis Lions of the Premier Development League (PDL) is excited to announce the addition of a Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) team for the 2018 season. Champions Sports Management was founded in 2005 by St. Louis soccer legend Tony Glavin and his partners to provide a professional setting for players that desire to excel and develop their soccer careers. The addition of a WPSL franchise will build on this mission.

"I'm very excited about adding the women's side to our St. Louis Lions. Finally we feel we're close to accomplishing the goal I set out when I started the youth program many years ago. This will be a great opportunity for many young women to participate from our local high school, colleges and youth clubs, not only in the St. Charles area but the entire St Louis region. This will also provide great entertainment for all in the St. Charles/St Louis area by providing a chance to see these great young athletes perform at the highest amateur level in the country. With the growth of women's soccer, St Louis will produce many fine young women athletes to be role models to the youth players in the area

The WPSL is an independent national league whose main focus is on the development of highly competitive premier women's soccer teams. The league has over 100 clubs participating from all over the United States. The WPSL makes every effort to bring quality soccer to all levels of the community and to promote the stature of female athletes as role models for our youth.

Sean Jones, President of the WPSL said in a statement, "We are proud to welcome the St. Louis Lions to the WPSL's "Heartland" conference. As the owner of the St. Louis Lions, Tony Glavin has been a fixture in growing the game in the St. Louis area for over 25 years. This fantastic club fields a very competitive men's team in the PDL and we are proud that they have chosen the WPSL to showcase great women's talent in the St. Louis area. They will add an even greater level of competition to the very difficult Heartland Conference which produced the 2018 National Champions "Fire and Ice Soccer Club."  We look forward to working with General Manager Kevin Hecht and Tony Glavin to provide young women with the opportunity to compete at this very high level and to continue to pursue their dreams."

Tony Glavin will act as head technical director of the team.  The WPSL side will be coached by TGSC Assistant Club Director, Geoff Lorimier. Geoff has been with the club since 2001 and holds the USSF National C License. He has been an assistant coach with the St. Louis Lions Men's team, in the PDL, since 2015.

The team will hold a Facebook Live chat on Friday, February 2nd to provide more details and answer questions. Check out the brand new website at www.stllionswpsl.com
